When I initially visited Sweden at the tender age of nine, I fully fell in appreciate with my Swedish friends’ summertime cottage. It was all the things you would affiliate with the Swedish summer months: a picturesque pink and white cottage surrounded by woodland, lakes and the sweet scent of roses. Oh, and probably the odd mosquito! When I stumbled throughout Alex and Erika’s region house online yesterday, it took me straight back to that summer time! Affectionately identified as
Gubbetorp, Alex and Erika’s croft is positioned in the beautiful Östergötland countryside and has been lovingly restored just one home at a time. The pair share a enthusiasm for antiques, classic finds and up cycling all of which add to the attraction of the house. Below are a couple snapshots from just before and just after the renovation – which includes ikea hacks, outdoor loo and all!

Alex and Erika picked up an IKEA chest of drawers for a track (100 SEK – or 8 quid!) and painted it in a soft grey-environmentally friendly.
Rabarber 1792 wallpaper provides a lively truly feel to the space.
Outside loo right before
It truly is not that unusual for Swedish cottages to have an out of doors loo with no working h2o. I recently stayed at Helen’s lovely location which was the identical! It took me back to the days I put in Grandmother’s residence. Granny Ruth had an out of doors and indoor loo. We by no means used the outdoor one as it was generally complete of spiders!
But the types I have seasoned in Sweden are so a lot fresher – primarily after a make-more than!
Outdoor loo
Erika and Alex have fully spruced up their out of doors loo – including wooden panelling which has been painted in the very same hue as the cottage inside.
They have also added household comforts these types of as a hand towel, magazines, clean wildflowers and possibly most importantly – a classic h2o tank for washing fingers.
The standout piece though, has to be the superb antique dresser – it adds such a homely contact!
What a variation!
Their yard is simply just magical – particularly in summertime. It has me dreaming of midsummer (which is only 8 months away!) and long summer times alfresco!
I hope you appreciated this prior to and after function as significantly as I have!
